Friday was a wonderful celebration of the last Friday of the month. We did our first artist study on the Impressionist Artist Claude Monet then we followed a tutorial on how to replicate his painting "Water Lilies". Our "firsties" did an amazing job at following directions and their paintings were more beautiful than I'd hoped.
We also had our first run at a spelling test which also turned out good. Please remember to check here weekly for new spelling lists. This week we will be studying words with short "e" sounds. Tests will be held every Friday.
In reading we will continue to understand the importance of a story having sequential order as we begin to discuss what is a character?
In writing we will be enhancing our ability to write a personal narrative by discussing "Brainstorming" where will learn how to come up with a story idea.
In math class we will continue to make "partners" by using "Part, Part, Whole" and "Math Mountains" in order to see which numbers partner up to makes 8-10.
In science class we will begin to understand what tools scientists use to observe, investigate, and experiment.
Our Social Studies classes will be about being a good citizen also means being a good friend.
As you can see we are very busy in first grade. So please although I give many things that can be done during at home free time, none of it is mandatory. I only ask that you let them read to you and you to them daily and that they practice handwriting, by writing about the story using complete sentences. One or two sentences daily is enough.
*Please remember uniforms must be worn daily and jackets and sweaters without school logo are not allowed in class.*
Also no plastic water bottles without spill proof lids. Thank You and know that I appreciate your support.
