As salaamu alaikum Second Grade Families,
In shaa Allah, you are in the best of health and Iman. Last week, we had four days of learning but still very busy and productive. With our usual routine of new spelling words, shared reading, paragraph writing, and math, we added reading groups. Second graders are assigned weekly reading books to read with their small group to work on different skills and strategies throughout the week. Every day, sister Nada and I rotate reading groups to read and teach groups different comprehension strategies both oral and written form. Students will be assessed at the end of each week on the book they read for the week. I will assign a new book each week to the different groups. In math, we are moving along from simple math mountains to solve word problems to using comparison bars. Students will continue to use the steps of solving word problems. They will be using more and fewer to compare and solve. There will be a unit 1 math test in the last week of October. In shaa Allah, I will review with students and send a completed review packet similar to the test to prepare. Ma shaa Allah, second graders are progressing as writers. We write paragraphs every week on a given topic using the writing process of brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. On Friday, we enjoyed learning about insulating and conducting with our science activity.
As always, thank you for your support and cooperation in helping our students to learn and grow in second grade. Please message me on Remind if you have any questions or concerns.
